Customer Demands for Online Low-E Glass Protective Coating
As a renowned Chinese glass manufacturer, the group has expanded its business scope over 30 years, from its initial float glass production to include energy-saving engineering glass, photovoltaic glass, high-performance electronic glass, neutral borosilicate pharmaceutical glass, automotive glass, and chip packaging glass, covering the entire glass industry chain.
At the end of 2025, to establish its unique technological competitive advantage, key technical personnel from the group’s Low-E coating line, having long admired Senlian’s reputation in automated glass coating, approached Senlian. During two months of technical discussions, Senlian’s expertise and experience in online coating and drying technology for silvered glass protective coatings were fully recognized. The group’s CEO quickly decided to purchase 10 sets of equipment from Senlian for use on the group’s existing Low-E coating lines, one of which will be deployed in Malaysia. However, during the initial technical discussions, the group’s technical personnel expressed the following concerns:
- Functionality of specialized UV protective coatings: Specialized UV coatings have functions such as anti-oxidation, protection during storage and transportation, prevention of glass adhesion, improved glass utilization, reduced glass tempering time, and reduced energy consumption. However, whether these functions can achieve the expected goals in practical applications remains to be seen.
- Equipment compatibility: This glass protective coating equipment needs to be embedded in the Low-E coating line for use. Under its high-speed operation of 60m/min, can the film thickness and uniformity of the UV protective coating meet the technical specifications? Is the equipment prone to failure during long-term operation (24 hours a day)? How should the protective coating equipment be cleaned and maintained when the Low-E coating line is not shut down?
- Coating drying issue: Under high-speed operation at 60m/min, can the drying equipment ensure that the special protective coating is completely dried from the inside out, without defects, within a limited length, so as to ensure there are no residues after sintering in the subsequent tempering process?
- Environmental protection equipment: The entire coating equipment needs to be equipped with environmental protection equipment to better comply with the environmental protection policies of various countries and regions. Can Senlian provide assistance or relevant materials?
Senlian Automatic Coating Solution for Low-E Glass Protection
Based on Senlian’s extensive experience in online glass protective coating and the Group’s strong commitment to this project, nine production lines were successfully delivered and implemented within six months through the joint efforts of both parties. Malaysia, as its overseas factory, was the last to be delivered as planned. Adhering to a rigorous and meticulous work style, Senlian twice dispatched technical teams to the Malaysian factory’s Low-E line for data collection, solution design, and discussions. Ultimately, the project was fully implemented in June 2026. This glass protective coating and drying equipment has the following characteristics:
- High-performance UV protective coating: Testing and statistical analysis by the group have verified that the anti-oxidation performance of this coated glass can be extended to more than 12 months, significantly reducing the risk of glass breakage, scratches, and contamination during transportation and processing. In terms of energy conservation and consumption reduction, this coating reduces the energy consumption of glass tempering by more than 15%.
- High-efficiency and stable operation at 60 m/min: Through rigorous initial design, Senlian’s equipment can be appropriately integrated into the back end of the Low-E line. At an operating speed of 60 m/min, the coating machine perfectly achieves micron-level precision coating, with film thickness and uniformity meeting the expected technical specifications. In the early stages of equipment use, some application defects arose due to inexperienced operation by some workers within the group. Therefore, Senlian proactively collected relevant information, implemented software debugging and program interlocks, and conducted multiple professional training sessions and assessments for Low-E coating line operators and managers. As a result, equipment operation has become smoother and more stable.
- Complete drying of coatings in seconds: Senlian focuses on automatic coating equipment and does not produce UV coatings. However, the coating brands that Senlian collaborates with have equally strong technical capabilities. With the close cooperation of high-performance equipment and coatings, even at a high speed of 60m/min, the coating can be completely dried from the inside out in seconds without affecting subsequent glass processing such as cutting, edge grinding, cleaning, and tempering.
- One-stop solution including environmental protection devices: In order to ensure a standardized production line layout while reducing the client’s investment costs, Senlian suggested that the group use its own glass materials to build the cleanroom according to our drawings, and then Senlian would provide a one-stop solution including equipment, coatings, and a VOC environmental protection system. This turnkey project service brought the group a more worry-free and efficient experience.
